❖ Stay Out of the Sun: Right after a laser treatment, your skin is going to be very sensitive. To reduce the risk of causing discomfort, dark spots and other forms of sun damage, it’s very important that you minimize the time you spend out in the sun immediately after treatment. Do not forget sunscreen.
❖ Gently Cleanse the Area: Gently cleanse treated area with any type of gently cleanser. Avoid scrubs, exfoliants, glycolic or salicylic acid, and retinoids for at least 1 week.
❖ Reduce Swelling: Some swelling and redness are common after laser treatments, particularly after ablative treatments that affect the outer layers of skin. Cold compresses and ice packs can help to bring down swelling and minimize redness.
❖ Keep the Skin Moisturized: We recommend applying hydrocortisone-based creams and petroleum-based moisturizers. The moisturizer not only helps to hydrate the skin, but also forms a protective barrier along the healing skin, keeping germs at bay.
❖ Wait to wear makeup:
After a laser treatment, skin often looks worse before it starts to improve. Redness, scaling and crusting are common. Do not apply makeup to cover up this redness or minimize the appearance of scales and crusts for 48 hours after treatment.
